The Age of Dreams

The structure of this piece originates in the square shape of aboriginal weavings. The work expresses the natural conditions and social customs of a specific hometown; mountains and forests, land, water, blue skies, and wind. All types of people gather together in the city and all with hopes and dreams for which they strive. When we build dreams there are times of happiness and times of frustration. It is at such moments that the mountains and forests of our native lands become places where people can relax and find release. After resting, they have more energy for new adventures and can then return to chasing their next dream. The piece integrates the beauty of past and present aboriginal weaving techniques and materials, the essence being the beauty produced by their natural colors and labor. The work uses traditional ramie as a foundation, with hand dyed wool yarn knitted, woven, tied, and stitched. This gives the entire piece rhythmic contrasts between curves and lines, firm and soft, dark and light, tight and loose, reflecting the organic characteristics of nature and the boldness of textures. Through unadorned style and materials, this piece expresses pure luxury and a rich beauty formed through the simple squares.
