Floating Rainforest

World Games Station is the first elevated station on the Red Line, traveling north past Pan-ping Mountain. This transport hub lies between Pan-Pin Mountain, Lotus Pond and the old city tourist area in north Kaohsiung, leading to Tsuo-Nan military dependents village and industrial zone. This station is also the gateway to the 2009 World Games held in Kaohsiung. The exterior of the station is designed to use the Architecture Art Glass (AAG) as the main material for both the station and the works of public art. The unique design of digital art makes it possible to transcend the realms of 2D and 3D. The skylight in the roof, side wall to the main station and the art-glass along the escalator are all decorated with shrubs, plants and flowers, creating a light/shade effect similar to that seen in mountain forests. The experience is akin to coming across a floating forest within the dusty hustle and bustle of an urban metropolis. For commuters it will almost be like walking along a pathway on Pan-Pin Mountain. This dance of sunlight and shade tells us “The Story of the Mountain and the People of Kaohsiung”.
