Boundless Power and Spirit

“Boundless Power and Spirit”is situated in front of the Martial Arts Stadium, sports stadium and international swimming pool. Geographically it is located between an important transport network connecting Kaohsiung city and county to the Sun Yatsen Freeway, making it a landmark entry and exit point to the city. The work focuses on the idea of competition between athletes, elevated to the pursuit of ones own limits in life. The simple curves that depict the movement of sportsmen and women together with the high round space of the MRT station and the spirit of the local landscape takes the two circles and combines them as a “∞” symbol. This can be seen as 1+1=∞, signifying that athletes 1+1>2, that the two cancel each other out in competitive contests or self transcendence, the pursuit of truth and the endless cycle of continuous advancement. The red “∞” that symbolizes boundless passion brings together the dual axis of North-South (Sun Yat-sen Freeway) and East-West (Kaohsiung-Fengshan). It also allows ideas to unfold along multiple vectors, highlighting the fact that the people of Kaohsiung are imbued the winning spirit so common of sportspeople and it is this that underpins the new vision of Kaohsiung.
